Parishioners in Somerset’s picturesque Cheddar made use of their green
and pleasant surroundings with several fundraising evenings in aid of
the Clifton Diocese Peru appeal.
Parishioners from Our Lady Queen of the Apostles each paid £10.00 to
take part in a knock-out croquet competition. The special tournament
was held in a parishioner’s garden.
The enjoyable event was very successful and generous players donated
over £470.00 for the appeal to help people of the San Antonio parish,
in the Moquegua region of southern Peru, to build a church. San Antonio
is looked after by Father Danny O’Sullivan, a priest of the Clifton
Diocese who comes from Bath.
Cheddar Parish Priest Father Peter Slocombe said, “I visited Father
Danny last year and know, from first-hand experience, that the Clifton
Diocese Peru Appeal is much needed by the people of Moquegua.
“I’ve shown slides of my visit and talked to parishioners about life in Peru.
“On a further fundraising evening we listened to and played Peruvian
music whilst selling refreshments to our audience. A collection at that
event raised an extra donation of over £300.00.”
