20 January 2008
Catholic parishes in the Clifton Diocese join with others in England and Wales to celebrate Peace Sunday on 20 January. The day offers an opportunity to reflect on the Holy Father's World Peace Day message.
Pope Benedict XVI has written a special message, in which he affirms the family, for the 41st World Day of Peace.
In his address, ‘The Human Family, a Community of Peace’, the Holy Father says that the world’s people are, “called to build relationships of solidarity and cooperation among themselves, as befits members of the one human family.”
He goes on to affirm the family as, “the first and indispensable teacher of peace”.
The message relates family values to the economy, the environment and humanity as a whole.
Pope Benedict also refers to the need for, “effective demilitarization” – especially in the area of nuclear arms.
You can go to the Vatican website for the message in full.
