St John the Baptist Parish in Trowbridge has been enthusiastically
embracing the Clifton Diocese vocations campaign. To mark the world day
of prayer for vocations, Canon Liam O'Driscoll, Parish Priest of St
John's, organised a Holy Hour to pray for vocations.
Tom Dubois, a seminarian in his fourth year of training for priesthood,
spoke at all the Sunday Masses promoting vocation to priesthood. Tom
has been in the parish since September and has spoken about priestly
vocation in other parishes in the deanery as well as in St Augustine's
School. In the school he has also been showing the Fishers of Men DVD
produced by Grassroots Films of Brooklyn, New York for the American
Catholic Bishops Conference to promote priesthood. Louisa Marr, a
Religious Education teacher at St Augustine's said, “The Fishers of Men
DVD is very powerful. A number of students have said that it's given
them a new understanding of what priesthood is about.”
The vocations posters featuring Reverend James Finan have also been a
great success. Parishioner Matt Doogue said, "The posters are
fantastic. They show priesthood in a very positive and inspiring way.”
