All in Together!

27 June 2008

It was another red-letter day at St John Fisher in Wellington when the three children of the Leiser family all received baptism together!

Not only that, but they chose the 22 June on which to join the church as it is the parish’s feast day of St John Fisher (a reformation period martyr who suffered beheading this day in 1535.)  Pia (10) Jenna (seven) and Reuben (five) live with parents Simon and Adella near Churchstanton and all had walked into the church a few months ago, determined that they must join; having never been involved with a church before!  Parishioners provided a welcome which clinched their membership and they feel they have not looked back since.

Simon and Adella are themselves preparing with other adults on a longer course about Christian faith at St John Fisher’s, before being formally received as Roman Catholics.

Parish Priest Father Bob Rainbow said, “It is not the first time I have received a whole family into church membership, but it is rare.  The Leisers are a real credit to us and already involved with our ‘KingFishers’ parish youth group.”

After the celebration of Mass celebrated by Father Bob at which the baptisms took place, the Leisers joined with parishioners in a feast day party of food and drink in the parish room.
