As we approach Holocaust Memorial Day on Friday 27 January, the Clifton Diocese Interfaith Officer, Father Robert King met up with the man who has been instrumental in bringing a special exhibition about Anne Frank to Somerset. The exhibition will challenge visitors to not only reflect on Anne Franks’ personal experiences but to relate them to the world in which we live and our own attitudes.
Methodist minister Reverend Bruce Thompson is responsible for the new exhibition created by the Anne Frank Trust to Taunton. ‘Anne Frank + you’ runs from Sunday 5 March to Thursday 30 March at The Pilgrim Place, Temple Church in Taunton.
Father Robert King, the Clifton Diocese Interfaith Officer, said:
“One of history’s harshest lessons is the human capacity to repeat horrific acts of violence. Aware of human fragmentation and the ability to hate the Reverend Bruce Thompson has invited the Anne Frank Exhibition to the West. Using multimedia the exhibition invites young people to embark on a journey of self exploration through the story of Anne’s war time diaries. At a global level hatred still leads to genocide and oppression while at a local level intolerant words and actions cause misery.
As a Catholics we are increasing aware of the cultural diversity within our communities and I commend all young people, and those not so young, in the Clifton Diocese to join the pilgrimage of hope towards understanding and accepting difference by visiting the Anne Frank exhibition in Taunton.”
Over 120 volunteers are currently undergoing training to become guides at the exhibition and many of those come from throughout the faith communities of Somerset including parishioners from Taunton’s Catholic Church of St George.
‘Anne Frank + you’ is free to visit and will be open weekdays from 9.30 am to 7.30 pm (with an extra hour on Thursdays, closing at 8.30 pm), Saturdays 9.30 am to 5.30 pm and Sundays from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm. Further information from 01823 288662.
