Bishop Declan's pastoral visit to Brazil and Peru, to visit Clifton
Diocese Priests working in South America, proved to busy and uplifting.
Bishop Declan was accompanied on the visit by Canon Robert Corrigan,
the Dean of Clifton Cathedral. The visit started in Brazil where they
visited Father Leo Dolan. Father Leo ministers in the Muntinga area of
Brazil and has worked in South America since 1970. He was ordained as a
Priest in 1963 and went on to work as a Curate at St Alphege, Bath and
The Immaculate Conception, Stroud until his missionary work took him to
places much further a field.
The Bishop's pastoral visit moved onto Peru where he and Canon Robert
met with Father Daniel O'Sullivan. Father Daniel is originally from
Bath and has been a member of the St James Society, a missionary
organisation providing priestly ministry in South America, since 1982.
Father Daniel is well known to parishioners in Bath where many
community and parish events are held to raise funs for his work in
Peru.
Bishop Declan took the best wishes of many parishioners and bother priests to both Father Daniel and Father Leo.
Bishop Declan was kept busy during the visit. He took in the experience
a parish football tournament, presided at a Mass of Confirmation and
delivered a talk to the St James Missionary Society. A meeting with the
local Bishop of the area where Father Daniel works was also part of his
itinerary.
In between visits and other events, Bishop Declan found the time for a
quick word with BBC Radio Bristol who broadcast an interview with him
and Father Daniel on Trevor Fry's 'Sunday Starts' programme.
