Bishop Declan's Letter to Local Polish Community

12 April 2010

This morning (12 April) Bishop Declan wrote to the Polish communities around our diocese offering his prayers following the  tragic death of President Lech Kaczynski and other leading figures in Polish public life.

Bishop Declan's letter has been sent to the Polish priests ministering in our diocese.  He says:

"Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

"I would like to express my sorrow and offer my prayers for you all following the tragic death of President Lech Kaczynski and all those who were travelling with him to Smolensk.

"The tragedy was all the more poignant given the purpose of the journey was to commemorate the shocking killings at Katyn.  As you know the massacre is remembered symbolically at Clifton Cathedral.

"May all those who have died come to the fullness of the resurrection.  May those who mourn be comforted."
