Bristol’s Travelling Community’s Generous Memorial to Young Man

In memory of a young man who died in a road traffic accident, a community of travellers, who live near Bristol, has generously given to a local appeal.

John Boy McDonagh tragically died in road traffic accident. At a Memorial Mass for him, friends and family raised £388.00 towards the Clifton Diocese Peru Appeal. The open-air Mass was celebrated at the travelling community’s site on the outskirts of Bristol. Father Michael Walsh, Parish Priest of St Anthony’s Catholic Church in Henbury, Bristol was the celebrant.

Father Michael Walsh said, “As Catholics, the travelling community in Bristol wanted to demonstrate their appreciation of John Boy’s life by showing generosity to those in need. The collection today will go towards supporting the Parish of San Antonio in the Moquegua region of southern Peru which is under the care of Father Danny O’Sullivan, a priest of the Clifton Diocese, and the St James Society. Father Danny is originally from Bath.”

On hearing of the news Father Danny O’Sullivan in Peru said, “I feel very humble that John Boy’s family and friends have remembered him with this gesture in support of my poor community. I thank them for their support and appreciate their desire to help us a part of the universal Church community.”
