In 1960, members of the National Board of Catholic Women, Catholic Women’s League and Union of Catholic Mothers held the first Fast Day to raise money for the poor on the other side of the world.
Fifty years on, people supporting CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas development) continue their work of connecting Catholic communities in England and Wales with poor communities worldwide.
Together we are making a real difference.
You can download the CAFOD Fast Day prayer card in the multimedia on the right.
More details from the Clifton CAFOD Manager Tony Vassallo on 01823 338903.
Give it up is CAFOD's way of celebrating 50 years of Lent Fast Day.
Whatever you give up this Lent – biscuits, wine, magazines, a meal – can be transformed into lasting change for a child, a family, even a whole community in the developing world.
To help you give it up CAFOD has a special website packed with loads of great resources and fundraising ideas, so you can create all kinds of amazing transformations. Give up something this Lent and donate the money you save to people living in poverty.
A great new DVD has been produced showing how ordinary people are changing lives this Lent.
You can watch the three films on cliftondiocese.com in the cliftondiocese.com cliplayer. The main film is available below. The second video is the youth film and the third video is the primary film.
