Canberra nurse’s talk marks 25th anniversary of the Falklands conflict

One woman’s personal account of her involvement in the Falklands Conflict will be the subject of an evening talk at a Salisbury college, where Bishop Declan is a trustee.

Rosie Zaniewski will visit Sarum College on Thursday 10 May 2007. She was a senior nurse onboard the cruise ship Canberra in 1982 when the Falklands conflict broke out. When the ship set sail for the South Atlantic as part of the British task force sent to liberate the South Atlantic islands, Rosie chose to stay on board the vessel. Her talk centres on her experiences of three months at sea.

The Canberra was just one of almost 70 commercial ships used to aid UK forces during the conflict, and was used as a hospital ship and to transport troops, equipment and POW’s.

The illustrated talk is part of a series of evening lectures organised by Sarum College, under the name ‘Sarum Supper Club.’

Development Director for Sarum College Stephen Hackett said, “Sarum Supper Club is open to all. These evenings offer a chance to meet people, listen to an interesting talk, and have a glass of wine. We’re very lucky that Rosie has agreed to speak about her experiences in the Falklands War – it should be a fascinating evening.”

The event starts at 7.30 pm on Thursday 10 May at a price of just £10.00 per person, which includes tea, coffee or a glass of wine after the talk. A pre-talk supper is also available in the college’s refectory upon booking.
