Cathedral Adventure: Owl Prowl & Winter Wildlife Evening

30 October 2008

The Cathedral parish has organised an evening out and everyone’s welcome to join them as they venture south to sample the Somerset wildlife scene.  It’s the latest in the Cathedral’s popular parish trips - so sign up soon if you’d like to take part.  You don’t have to be part of the parish to take part - you’ll be made most welcome.

Organiser and Cathedral parishioner Mary Colwell told cliftondiocese.com, “Top local naturalist Chris Sperring MBE - the owl expert and real life Dr Doolittle - has offered to take 20 people on an evening owl prowl near Cheddar Gorge on Saturday 29 November.

“Chris will call down owls by imitating their hoot, explain their lifestyles and how they fit into a woodland eco-system.  We’ll also see the winter roost of redwings and other birds, and hopefully deer.  It’ll be a wonderful evening.  However the walk is about three miles, mostly in the dark on rough footpaths so please only sign up if you can do this type of walking - so it’s not suitable for young children or infirm people.

“It is essential to book a place as numbers have to be limited to 20.  We’ll meet at 4.00 pm at Black Rock car park which is on the B3135 between Cheddar and the village of Priddy (OS Landranger 182 or OS Explorer 141 - ST 482545).   It is essential to bring your own torch, good footwear and suitable clothing.  We’ll be back at the car park about 6.30 pm to 7.00 pm.

“To book your place please call me on 0117 904 6949.”

The cost is just £5.00 per adult and £2.00 for children.
