Cathedral Dean

20 April 2008

Clifton Cathedral Dean, Monsignor Canon Robert Corrigan, is to become an Army Chaplain.  He made the news known in the parish newsletter this weekend.

“Although it won’t happen until a bit later in the summer I will be leaving the Cathedral after what will have been seven years as Parish Priest.  However I have actually been involved with the Cathedral since 1992 which is when I moved to Bristol as Bishop¹s Secretary. I am not going to another parish but moving to become an Army Chaplain within the Royal Army Chaplains Department.  Following a period of training, both in the classroom and at Sandhurst, I will then be sent to a regiment.  It is also pretty certain that in the not too distant future I will be able to give you first hand reports about the situation in Afghanistan where so many service men and women are deployed.

“I wanted to mention this move now as there is quite a bit of preparation to do, not least of which is working out how to pack things into storage until I have somewhere to live again! You will have to put up with me until the summer but if you see boxes going into Cathedral House empty and coming out full at least it will make sense!

"Can I ask your prayers for everyone in our Parish community who is preparing to move or for a change in their life in the next few months, be it people changing job or school or preparing to leave home and go to University.  Cardinal Newman said that "to live is to change, and to be perfect is to have changed often, but change is not always easy nor is it easily entered into.""
