Children’s Advent Reflections

30 November 2008

A new podcast series begins this Sunday (30 November) - the First Sunday of Advent.  The podcasts come from the Cathedral’s Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) and feature the Gospel reading of the day and sequent discussion with the children.

The CLOW sessions are led by Louise White, a teacher from the Cathedral parish primary school, SS Peter and Paul in Cotham.

Mary Manners, Clifton Cathedral’s CLOW Coordinator said, “We hope our podcasts would be useful for Catholics and other Christians around the Clifton Diocese and even further field.  They are essentially, what happens during our weekly CLOW.

“We hope people young and old enjoy listening and reflecting throughout Advent.”

A new podcast will be published on cliftondiocese.com every Sunday during Advent.

Today’s Gospel is Mark 13:32-37.

Jesus told his disciples: ‘Only my Heavenly Father knows when the Son of Man will return, so stay awake and be ready so that you will not be taken by surprise.  Like a man who goes on a journey and tells his servants to take care of his home, they must be prepared for his return at any time so that he will always find them ready to greet him.

Louise and the children read this prayer.

God of love
in the light of this Advent candle
we remember that Jesus your Son
was born as a baby in Bethlehem

As we prepare
to celebrate his birthday at Christmas
may we become more like Jesus
and share his light
with everyone we meet

Amen
