Following the popular success at the 2004 Greenbelt Festival, which saw
a capacity crowd attending Mass, the Catholic Agency for Overseas
Development (CAFOD) in the South West has been invited back this year.
CAFOD volunteer, Doug Lowe from Taunton has been asked to arrange Mass
for the festival which works to express love, creativity and justice in
the arts and contemporary culture in the light of the Christian Gospel.
The festival takes place at the famous Cheltenham Racecourse from
Friday 26 August to Monday 29 August.
Mass will be celebrated by Father Mark Moran (pictured middle),
Assistant Priest at Holy Rood Catholic Church in Swindon, on Saturday
27 August at 6.30 pm in the Talk 1 marquee.
Doug says, “Because of last year’s overcrowding we will be celebrating
Mass in a much larger venue on Saturday. The Mass will be action packed
and we hope something people can take back to their local churches and
try. I am pleased that again we will have a great young music group to
enrich our worship. All festival-goers are most welcome to join us.
“CAFOD volunteers will be taking part in the festival during the entire
weekend. Our stand is in the pulse marquee where many local CAFOD
supporters will come along to talk about our work in places such as
Darfur.”
Father Mark Moran was ordained to the Priesthood in July will be
visiting the Greenbelt Festival for the first time. He says, “I am
looking forward to celebrating Mass on Saturday. I have heard a lot of
exciting things about Greenbelt. It’s great that so many people can
come together to share their love of culture and arts while learning
more from the Gospels.”
Father Mark will also be giving live interviews on Sunday morning to
tlak about his thought on what he has seen and taken part in over the
weekend. He will be talking with BBC Radio Swindon and BBC Radio
Wiltshire’s Mark Jones (pictured, bottom) at about 8.20 am. Father Mark
will then be talking with BBC GMR which broadcasts in the Greater
Manchester area. They are keen to hear from him as he is originally
from Bolton.
