Cultural Cleric Looks Forward to Faith Films

17 October 2008

The Bristol priest dubbed the ‘cultural cleric’ is one of many people excited about the world-class films being shown as part of a season on human trafficking that has been organised by local groups including Christians.

Internationally acclaimed film maker Nick Broomfield will launch Unchosen, the Bristol film festival against human trafficking with his film Ghosts on Monday 20 October at 7.30 pm at Elim City Church on Jamaica Street in Stokes Croft.

The Ghosts screening launches a remarkable week of through-provoking cinema that culminates with It’s a Free World…, directed by the south west’s most respected film director Ken Loach who will be holding questions and answers after his film.  That’s on Saturday 25 October at Redwood Lodge on Beggar Bush Lane in Failand.

Other films include Sex Traffic at Armada House in the city centre (21 October); Amazing Grace at John Wesley’s New Room in Broadmead (22 October); Our Big Fair Trade Adventure at Woodlands in Clifton (23 October); and Holly gets its English premiere (24 October) with talk by producer Adi Ezroni as part of the festival.  That’s on at Redwood Lodge

The Unchosen website has more information and tickets.

Father Robert King, the Catholic Chaplain at the University of Bristol and the man dubbed the ‘cultural cleric’ thanks to his radio reviews of love of film is looking forward to Unchosen.  He told cliftondiocese.com, “Film is an excellent medium to help us better understand humanity.  Unchosen is a unique film festival that explores the horror of human trafficking. As well as awaking a human empathy within us the festival supports a campaign that calls for change. As Catholics we value freedom and human life. Let us unite with Christians and others in out city to put human justice first.”

All ticket sales go to supporting human trafficking campaigns including Daughters of Cambodia, Stop the Traffik and the Morecambe Bay Victims Trust Fund.

Unchosen in sponsored by the Bible Society, Christian Aid and Churches Together.

I admire Fr Robert's enterprise and love to hear all about it. I do not have energy now in my arthritic condition but it delights me to hear of it all.
I do swim at Redwood!
Good wishes to it all. Mary
