Jubilee of Mercy – Resources

To accompany our pilgrimage through the Jubilee of Mercy, the diocesan department of Adult Education and Evangelisation has produced a series of resources by way of helping you make a prayerful journey and one that offers us a renewed personal encounter with the person of Jesus Christ, the face of Mercy.

A reflective resource for the Year of Mercy entitled Merciful like the Father, is a four session resource that allows us to ponder Jubilee, Mercy, Jesus – the face of mercy, and mercy as mission. It can be used by parish groups, pastoral councils, school and religious communities, house groups, individuals at home, at work or on the move. Its simple format allows us to immerse ourselves in a richer understanding of the mercy of the Father revealed to us in Jesus and reflect upon how that experience of the Father’s mercy converts us to become echos of mercy to others and to our world.

A guide to the Sacrament of Reconciliation is a simple resource to aid people in their celebration of the God’s forgiveness. To accompany this, a series of Prayers of Contrition have also been produced as a way of offering us tools from the a wealth of spirituality and prayerfulness.

Lent course for 2016 has been produced with the help of Fr Henry Wansborough OSB, from Ampleforth. Taking us deeper into the narrative of the mercy of God revealed through the scriptures and exploring some of the beautiful Sunday Gospels for Lent, this simple ‘conversational’ Lent course allows us to journey through Lent keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus as we allow the word of God to shape and form us towards the celebration of the Paschal Triduum.

Pilgrimage features so strongly in Pope Francis’ invitation to celebrate Jubilee. As well as the four designated places of pilgrimage in our diocese, Bishop Declan invites you to join him on pilgrimage to the Holy Land in October 2016 as well as at Glastonbury in July. If your parish is embarking upon pilgrimage during the Year of Mercy, do let us know where so we can trace where pilgrimage is taking place in our diocese across the Jubilee.

The Jubilee offers us the opportunity to deepen prayer, enable communion, and strengthen mission.
