Members of the formation team from the Archdiocese of Liverpool will pay a return visit to our diocese with a view to introducing us to the superb catechetical formation material they have produced to prepare families for the baptism of their children. The material is designed to support families in their preparation for their child’s baptism as well as immerse them in a welcoming community of faith that seeks to support and nurture them.
Working closely with Fr Gerry Walsh, we have arrange for Fr John McLoughlin (Episcopal Vicar for Formation, Liverpool) and Veronica Murphy to visit St Patrick’s, Brockworth on Wednesday 3 June (7.30pm to 9.15pm with refreshment available from 7pm) and on Thursday 4 June (11.00am to 1pm, followed by a sandwich lunch). The same session introducing the catechetical material will be run twice. The sessions are open to priests, deacons, catechists, pastoral assistants, and those good people of faith and a genuine sense of welcome that you feel would form part of a formation team that would journey with parents, families, and godparents in preparation for Baptism in your parishes.
Below is a PDF version of a poster for parish notice boards and for use in newsletters. It may be that you want to come along simply to find out more and/or send someone to do just the same. Fr John and Veronica will bring the catechetical materials and talk through them so that you get a real sense of the journey of preparation on offer and the way it could be used in your parishes and deaneries.
This is a wonderful opportunity to explore how we might draw families across the thresholds of our parishes for the sacraments and who we can truly welcome them into the life of our communities.
