Emergency Number for Gloucester Priests
The three Catholic parishes in the city of Gloucester are trialling a
single dedicated number for out of hours contact with a priest.
Father Keith Miles, Parish Priest of the English Martyrs Catholic Church in Tuffley, said:
“This is to ensure – as far as we are able – that a priest is available in an emergency. The number will operate from 8.00 pm to 9.00 am. Caller will be directed automatically to the duty priest.
“This trial will have the benefit of making the clergy in Gloucester more accessible in emergencies as well as relieving the priests of routine telephone calls that are sometimes made late in the evenings. By working together in this way we are able to improve accessibility for people who urgently need a priest and at the same time give those not on call a chance to unwind at the end of a long and often stressful stressful day.”
The number, which is now in operation, is 01452 301767.
