Diocesan Family Day

The Department of Adult Education has released details of the Diocesan Family Day inviting us to keep the date free! Bishop Declan is inviting our diocesan community to come together on Saturday 1 July for a day’s gathering and formation centred around living the gift of our baptism at St Brendan’s College, Brislington.

Pope Francis reminds us that the new evangelisation calls for the personal involvement of all the baptised and so this day brings us together in the hope of sending us back renewed and refreshed. Most of all, the day seeks to celebrate what it means to be the family of our diocese.

This day is aimed at everyone in our diocesan family, not just families. There’s something for all and if you look at the information guide below you’ll see that the day has something to offer our children, our young people as well as adults and the young at heart. Having something for the children means that parents and carers can enter fully into the day knowing that the children are looked after, engaged and entertained. Our young people will be drawn into the unfolding of their own spiritual and faith journey from baptism into discipleship. You’ll see that there’s something for pastoral councils, for those engaged in parish and pastoral ministry, something for those responsible for prayer in parishes, and something for those who just want to explore!

The Liturgy Office is also facilitating a formation stream for those who exercise a ministry of Holy Communion. This fantastic opportunity to draw our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion together with our bishop allows us to refresh and renew ministry with formation and conversation. You may be well used to exercising this ministry in your parish or you may have more recently been asked to undertake this responsibility. This day gives chance for a real exploration of ministry at the service of the Eucharist and the community. For ministers of Holy Communion, the day will culminate in a renewal of commissioning with Bishop Declan.

Full details can be found in the information guide. Posters and details of the day have been sent out to parishes. Keep the date free, bring others with you and please do promote to those around you. It’s always a good day; it’s always a wonderful gathering from so many communities within the diocese. It is great to celebrate being Church!

Lunch will be catered for you and there will be refreshments throughout the day. To give us an idea of numbers please register for the day by email: adult.education@cliftondiocese.com or contact us on: 0117 902 5595.
