Father Leo Embassy Update

23 January 2009

One of the parishioners supporting Clifton Diocese priest Father Leo Dolan who ministers in Brazil, has spoken about a recent visit to the Brazilian Embassy in London.

Dr Derek Indoe said: “The meeting with Secretary Luis Filipe Pereira de Carvalho, Head of Human Rights Sector was successful.

“We were able to discuss and seek clarification about violent events in Brazil that affected people known to Father Leo.  We also spoke about how the work of landless people can be protected and supported by the Brazilian authorities and other agencies.

“It was good to confirm that human rights are on the agenda for young people in Brazil as well as exploring where our dialogue with the Brazilian Government might progress.

“As a small group of parishioners from around the Clifton Diocese we continue to seek others who may wish to find out more about Father Leo and the people with whom he lives in Brazil.  Please do get in touch if you wish.  Your support will be welcomed by Father Leo and fellow Christians in Brazil.

“Finally, our thanks go to Secretary Luis Filipe Pereira de Carvalho for his invitation to meet with him and his willingness to look into and discuss further matters we brought to him.”

Dr Indoe was a guest on BCfm’s award-winningFace to Faith’ on Monday (19 January).  cliftondiocese.com has that conversation and you can listen to it in the multimedia panel on the right.
