Catholic students in Bath are enjoying regular nights of fun, film and faith.
Many young people have been gathering in the Catholic Chaplaincy Centre
at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church on South Parade at 7.30 pm on
Sunday’s, following the Chaplaincy’s 6.30 pm Mass.
Films of Catholic interest are shown, both for a little relaxation and as spark for some lively cultural conversation.
Bath universities Catholic Chaplain, Father Bill McLoughlin OSM, said,
“On Sunday 13th of May we will be showing ‘Romero’- the true story of
the Catholic Archbishop Oscar Romero, who lived in El Salvador during
the political unrest in the 1980s.
“The film reflects on the government having launched a 'terror campaign' against the guerrillas in an attempt to crush them.
“Archbishop Romero's protests against the government’s actions are
perceived as disloyalty. As an example to others, the government begins
to destroy churches and murder priests. Despite persecution, Romero
continues to speak out against the atrocities the government is
committing against the people of El Salvador, until his untimely death.
“The follow-on conversation over a drink is always good.”
