Golfing Glory Uncovered from the Archives

30 August 2008

Swindon Dean and Parish Priest of St Mary’s, Father Liam Slattery, is the National Coordinator of the National Clergy Golf Tournament.  He’s been in touch with cliftondiocese.com to share some archive images of winning clergy teams from the Clifton Diocese.

Father Liam reported for cliftondiocese.com from the National Clergy Golf Tournament earlier this month.  We didn’t win this year, but Father Liam now reminds us of the glory years with the photographs that can be viewed in our image gallery on the right.

Father Liam told cliftondiocese.com, “The two photographs come from a past era when the Clifton clergy team won Division 2 of the National Clergy Golf Society.

“The black and white one is from 1985 showing (from left to right) Dom Martin Salmon (RIP), Fathers Donal Daly, Michael English, Ned Murphy, James O'Brien, David Ryan, Pat O'Donovan and Gerry Rogers.

“I'm not sure of the date of the colour photograph, but it shows (from left to right) Fathers Gerry Rogers, David Ryan, Donal Daly, Tadhg Barry, Michael English, Pat O'Donovan, Dom Martin Salmon (RIP) and Michael Spain.”
