Pupils, staff and parents and other members of the St Francis primary school in Nailsea have recently been learning about caring for God’s wonderful world and protecting the environment.
The children spent a week recycling, reusing and reducing waste and have picked up useful tips on how to look after our world and keep it green.
Since ‘green week’ the children have continued recycling, reusing and reducing waste. Many families have made pledges which have been put together in a book. These include, "We will turn off lights when we leave a room", "We won't leave the computer on standby during the night", "We will have showers instead of baths" , "We will go to the recycling centre once a week with our plastic bottles" and "We will only watch telly for 15 minutes a day".
Angela Parry from St Francis told cliftondiocese.com, "We are applying for a schools green award, and EDF Energy are supplying us with compost bins so that we can start composting food waste. We all thoroughly enjoyed the week. "
And here are a few words from the young people themselves, "Green week was really fun. It taught us not to waste water."
"I learnt about recycling. I am going to tell my mum not to put the milk bottles in the bin."
"I have found out about keeping the world green and green is my favourite colour."
"I am going to help to look after our world because that will make God happy."
