A talented musician with a worldwide classic to his name performed a fantastic show at St Patrick’s in Bristol’s Redfield on Friday (11 July) night. John Byrne, who was lead guitarist with The La’s and had a world-wide hit with the genius ‘There She Goes’, was demanded back on stage by the St Patrick’s crowd for two encores.
John’s set exposed the audience to a whirlwind world tour of music and as well as trip through time. The sounds ranged from The Beatles of the 1960s to lute music from the 14th century. Whatever the era, John’s ear was perfect and the appreciative East Bristol crowd broadened their musical knowledge with some memorable tunes.
John’s conversation and chat with the crowd helped build and sustain the laid-back and convivial feel to the evening. At one stage managed John invited anyone who’s passing to pop into his place for a chat! However, this engagement with by the audience seemed to indicate the large degree to which performer and audience enjoyed each others company.
