Holy Footsteps: St Oliver Plunkett

17 January 2009

Our new saintly series of podcasts continues today.  ‘Holy Footsteps’ brings to life amazing stories of saints associated with the Clifton Diocese.  Each Saturday this month we travel around the diocese - to locations that are significant to the saints and others who feature in the series.  Often we’ll take you to places where our holy heritage is still clear to see.

Today’s ‘Holy Footsteps’ episode takes us to Downside Abbey at Stratton-on-the-Fosse.  We’re in the company of renowned historian, the Abbot of Downside, Right Reverend Dom Aidan Bellenger OSB.  Downside is the resting place for some of St Oliver Plunkett’s remains and that’s where we met Abbot Aidan on a stormy day last year.

The Irish-born martyr who was the Archbishop of Armagh who lived from 1629 to 1681.  But these are just the bare facts - Abbot Aidan guides us through St Oliver Plunkett’s life.

Listen to ‘Holy Footsteps’ in the multimedia panel on the right for much more about the last martyr to die in England.

Last week's podcast about St Arilda is still online.

Another ‘Holy Footsteps’ episode will be available from cliftondiocese.com next Saturday (24 January), so join us around the Clifton Diocese as we find out more about our holy heritage.

Is it possible to have the text of St. Oliver Plunket - Thank you!

Reply: Thanks Sr Concepta - Unfortunately there is no text - Abbot Aidan was speaking without notes. Glad you're enjoying the series.
