Excellent exam results have been flooding in for successful students
studying in Catholic schools and colleges throughout the Clifton
Diocese.
At Prior Park in Bath pupils achieved the highest ever top grades with
67% of grades being at A and B level. 53% of pupils gained three or
more As or Bs.
Notable successes were Andrew Johnson who gained a Choral Scholarship
at Magdalen College, Oxford, the college’s second Choral Scholar at
Magdalen and the fifth Choral Scholar to Oxbridge in the last four
years. This is an outstanding achievement for any school and shows the
musical talent of pupils and teachers within the community.
Tom Hole gained three A grades and two distinctions at Advanced
Extension Award Level amongst a total 14 pupils gained Advanced
Extension Awards at either distinction or merit level. Advanced
Extension Awards are proving popular with both pupils and Universities
showing the extra commitment by pupils to their subjects, and we were
very pleased with the results this year.
Prior Park Headmaster, Dr Giles Mercer said, "I am absolutely delighted
by the achievement of all our pupils they and their teachers have
worked extremely hard to achieve these excellent results."
News from St Augustine’s Catholic College in Trowbridge was also
positive. Brendan Wall, Headmaster of St Augustine’s was delighted with
this year’s set of results. They reflected the hard work and commitment
of staff and students working in partnership to succeed. He said.
“There was a 100% pass rate for the 103 students with 26% of all grades
being at grade A. For the second successive year, eight students
achieved three grade As with one student, Amy Hall, gaining entry to
Oxford University.”
To the north of the diocese, in Gloucester, St Peter’s High School’s
A-level results were once again extremely pleasing. Headteacher
Laurence Montague said, “167 students sat A level exams and our pass
rate was 97% with 66% of the grades at A to C and 41% at A to B.
“All students who wanted to progress to higher education have gained
places and there was some outstanding departmental performances.
Notably 100% A and B grades in Maths, whilst Economics, Art, Religious
Education, Psychology, English Literature, Theatre Studies all achieved
in excess of 40% A & B grades.”
