At 82 Mary Wright is very much a member of the Cathedral parish, but she’s increasingly unable to get out and about - what with her hip giving her problems. But she keeps up to date - more than ever before - with the news of the local Catholic Church thanks to
cliftondiocese.com. We went to meet Mary to find out how her website browsing habits are bringing her closer to the Catholic communities that make up the Clifton Diocese.
You can listen to our podcast with Mary in the multimedia panel on the right.
Mary highlights the story about
calendars produced by our Minehead parish as one of her favourites. The symbolic crossing of Clifton Suspension Bridge by
Bishop Declan and other faith leaders was only made known to Mary through
cliftondiocese.com. She ended up attending the talk the faith leaders gave at Emmaus House because of what she had read. Father Robert King’s
cultural outreach was also praised by Mary who says she thinks it’s very important for Catholics to be engaging with all aspects of life and not to close ourselves in.
Mary encourages parishes that are less prolific in telling their stories to start emailing in their news and pictures so the whole of the Catholic community in the West of England can celebrate our good ideas and successful projects. They should “join in” as Mary says.
