Mass Celebrating the Year for Priests

11 June 2010

The Year for Priests drew to a close this morning (11 June) on Feast of the Sacred Heart.  A special Mass was celebrated in the Cathedral.

The Holy Father intended this Year to be one whereby we prayed for our priests, even thanked our priests for the work they do in making Christ known through their word, their ministry, and the witness of their everyday lives. In the Clifton Diocese, many priests joined Bishop Declan in Clifton Cathedral to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart and to bring this spiritual year to a close.

Father Christopher Whitehead Director of Ongoing Formation of Priests for our diocese said: “This Mass was not simply for priests but a chance for our diocese to come together, gathered around our bishop, to celebrate all that this Year has called us to reflect upon.”

You can listen to our report from the Mass in the multimedia panel on the right.

Thank you, Anne, for your question. I've posted the bidding prayers for you in today's (15 June) news and article section of cliftondiocese.com. I'm glad you found them both helpful and prayerful.

I was also encouraged to hear that you thought the Anima Christi was rather beautiful. It is written by an Italian priest of the Diocese of Rome called Monsignor Marco Frisina. It is beautiful and a wonderful arrangement of the words. I think you can find it on youtube.com if you want to hear it sung.

Please could you email me the text of the wonderful prayers of the faithful, just before the Offertory, at this morning 's Mass (Friday 11th)?

Many thanks for a wonderful celebration. The singing was beautiful, the words of the hymns, thoughtful, and in particular, the setting of the Anima Christi was beautifully sung. Thank you!
