It seems to be becoming a tradition that the Sunday when the churches of St Paul, Yate, and St Lawrence, Chipping Sodbury hold their May procession, should be wet and windy.
This year was no exception. No sooner had the congregation assembled than the rain came down in torrents, so, instead of the procession winding its way around the lovely school grounds, the flower-decked bier carrying Our Lady’s statue, had to be carried around the aisles of the church.
The procession, led by Deacon Peter Hinchey meditated on the new Mysteries of Light, interspersed with many of the old, well-loved hymns to Our Lady.
The first communion children, led by Sister Annette, recited the Litany of Our Lady, and presented pictures to illustrate it, and the afternoon ended with Benediction, followed by a very welcome cup of tea.
Perhaps next year, the Legion of Mary, who organised he afternoon, could also arrange for the sun to shine?
