Hundreds of pupils from Catholic schools came to the Cathedral for a special Mass to see them on their way from primary to secondary education.
Bishop Declan celebrated these annual Masses in the Cathedral for those leaving primary education in our diocese. There are now so many pupils wishing to attend the Mass, there are two celebrations. One in the morning and another in the afternoon.
Our image gallery by Catherine Roperto gives you an idea of the special event.
Parish Priest of St Teresa of the Child Jesus is Filton, Father Tom Finnegan, gave the homily at the Masses.
Father Tom cliftondiocese.com: “The Primary Schools leavers Masses are always a highlight in the life of our Catholic schools. It marks the ending of one era and beginning of another.
“Through beautiful liturgy and excellent singing the Year 6 pupils experience a sense of togetherness as a diocese. Bishop Declan, along with our Department for Schools and Colleges show their continued support of Catholic education.
“It’s a real celebration of the gifts and talents of the children who have spent seven years in our Catholic schools. We all enjoyed Britain’s Got Talent on the TV, but we also celebrate that the Church has got talent in the lives of all those pupils who have given so much to their primary schools. We keep them very much in our prayers as they prepare to continue their education in the secondary schools that they have chosen to go to. May they continue to build the Kingdom of God with all they have been given and all that they have to give.”
