Notes on Newman

8 August 2010

A new series of podcasts introducing us to Cardinal John Henry Newman begins today (8 August) on cliftondiocese.com.  We’ll hear from local Newman scholars who’ll give us an insight into life of the man Pope Benedict XVI will beatify here in England next month.

You can listen to our podcast in the multimedia panel on the right. ‘The Life of Newman’ is written and presented by Salisbury-based Newman scholar Joyce Sugg.

You can also download the script in the multimedia panel on the right.

Tomorrow (9 August) we’ll bring you a further podcast featuring Joyce in discussion with the Clifton Diocese Papal Visit Coordinator Father Michael McAndrew.

Next Sunday (15 August) Dr Mervyn Davies, Scholar in Residence at Sarum College in Salisbury, brings us ‘Newman’s Importance Today’.

Thank you for this really wonderful series on Newman. I have always been very interested in him and my father always encouraging me to read his work. Much is rather dated or difficult so it is really good to have these very clear and interesting pieces about him. His thinking is important in our own time.
