Director of Ongoing Formation for Priests, Father Christopher Whitehead, has written to all priests letting them know of a packed programme of events designed to affirm priestly ministry.

In his letter, Father Christopher said: “We have tried to put together a programme that enables our priests to be ‘refreshed’ and engaged academically, spiritually, pastorally, and personally. Our speakers come from both within and outside of the diocese and we have tried to secure some truly competent speakers to come and facilitate these sessions for us.”

Father Christopher encourages all priests to take part in the events. The events create times and places where our priests can meet together and share ideas and support.

Father Christopher added: “In this Year for Priests that the Holy Father has invited us to enter into as a chance to renew, not only our love for the Lord but also that sense of commitment to serving His people, I hope that you will see this year’s programme as a chance to do just that and make something of this Year.

“These sessions, whilst allowing us to focus upon particular areas of our priestly lives, will also offer us the chance to come together as priests of our diocese in a real spirit of fraternity. I am hoping that as part of these days, there will be chance not simply to learn and explore together, but also come together to enjoy company and refreshment.”

Father Christopher is already looking ahead to 2010, and he invites priest to contact him if there are areas of pastoral, spiritual and priestly life they feel should be explored within the programme of on-going formation.

Father Christopher concluded his letter saying: “Our on-going formation as priests is important and the events and sessions that are laid on are arranged to emphasise that importance. I do hope that there is something here for you and something you feel could be of value and affirming in your life as a priest of this diocese.
