Palm Procession

31 March 2009

Children at St Francis Catholic Primary School in Nailsea have been preparing for Easter by re-enacting events in Jesus’ life.

One of these events was the Palm Procession which celebrates the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem as a king.  It also marks the beginning of a journey which leads to Jesus dying on the cross.

Dora, a donkey kindly loaned to the school from Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm in nearby Wraxall, led the procession.  They were followed by Deacon Paul Reddington from St Francis parish who represented Jesus, and some of Year 6 pupils who were dressed as Jesus’ disciples.

As the procession moved around the playground it passed the other children who waved palms and shouted “Hosanna”.  The procession gave the children chance to enter the Easter Season with an event that was different and exhilarating.
