Palm Sunday Unity in Gloucester

On Palm Sunday three Gloucester churches joined in a procession of witness from Podsmead to Tuffley.

The community at St George’s Anglican Church have been making the walk for some years and were recently joined by the Grange Baptist Church. This year the invitation was extended to the English Martyrs Catholic Church.

Father Keith Miles, the recently appointed Parish Priest at English Martyrs, Tuffley, said “I was delighted when we were invited to take part in this act of Christian witness. It is important that we remind people of the significance of this time of year and demonstrate that, despite our differences, we have much in common in our faith and can work together to bring the Christian message into peoples lives.

"I hope that this and the prayer group that we have formed together, will be the foundation of a close working friendship among Christians of different denominations.”

Our middle picture shows the group in prayer at the end of the walk acknowledging what they hold in common as being greater than that which separates us. Following this prayer the three churches went to their own place of worship for their own services.

Our final picture shows the blessing of palms in the car park at English Martyrs following the street procession.

The procession began at 9.00 am from Badger Vale Court in the Podsmead district of Gloucester.
