Pope Comes to Britain

It’s been 25 years since Pope John II came to visit us here in Britain. To commemorate the special occasion the Catholic Communications Network has created a fascinating special website.

The website is a collection of audio interviews and iconic images offering a fascinating behind-the-scenes insight to Pope John Paul II’s Pastoral Visit to Britain in 1982.

It went live on Monday 28 May 2007 – exactly 25 years after the Pope knelt to kiss the tarmac at Gatwick Airport.

When you visit the website you’ll find studio quality audio reflections (mp3s) from Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor – then the Bishop of Arundel and Brighton and one of the first to greet the Pope at Gatwick, the Auxiliary Bishop of Liverpool, the Right Reverend Vincent Malone, Father Tom Neylon – who was ordained priest by Pope John Paul, and many others who were directly involved with the historic visit.

The Catholic Communications Network (CCN) whose talented work went into creating the special website supports the Catholic bishops of England and Wales in promoting the gospel in the media. Their work involves engaging with media in the UK and abroad.
