Around 300 people attended a Service of Thanksgiving, Reconciliation and
Hope at Clifton Cathedral on Saturday 20 March 2004. Religious leaders
representing Sikh, Muslim, Christian, Hindu and Jewish faiths
contributed to the Service and prayers were sent by leaders of the
Buddhist faith

The Service was established in response to the poignancy of Mothering
Sunday in relation to adoption and included personal contributions from
two adopted adults, a birth mother and an adoptive parent.
CCS Adoption, who organised the Service in their Centenary Year,
extended a very warm welcome and many people commented on how the
service was moving and inclusive.
The Lord Mayor of Bristol, Cllr Bill Martin and local MP’s joined the
celebration and Sherrie Eugene, TV presenter, presented a poem and
signed the Service for those with hearing difficulties.
The service, aimed at people of all faiths and none whose lives have
been touched by adoption, provided an opportunity to celebrate the joy
of adoption, reconcile the inherent pain and join together in the hope
that all may achieve inner peace.
