Over two hundred people made their way to Clifton Cathedral, on
Saturday (31 March) to hear Bishop Declan talk about the need for
pastoral guidelines for our diocese.
The original meeting was intended to take place in the Apostle Room but
numbers meant the meeting was held in the main body of the Cathedral.
Bishop Declan began the meeting by thanking all those present for
giving up their Saturday morning and then asking the question “How can
we be Good news in our diocese today?” He talked about the need to face
the future with confidence and also stressed the need for dialogue with
those from other faiths.
People commented that they found the reflections “thought provoking”
and “clear - using language everyone could access”. Many commented on
how good it was to hear the Bishop explaining his views and expressed a
desire for more study days. Some talked about the hope that “our parish
will be revitalised, saying “we have an opportunity now to change
things we need to take it”.
Typical of the question raised about the future were, “how do we engage
everyone in the parish” and “how can we take the process further
forward?” The one complaint identified by almost everyone was that the
cathedral was chilly. It was! However the enthusiasm of the people
present was not dampened in anyway.
The meeting ended in prayer with the Bishop expressing his thanks to
those members of the cathedral parish who came to make tea and coffee
and help set up the cathedral.
