On a bright Saturday morning (10 March), Bishop Declan spoke to a
packed hall at St George in Taunton, where the second meeting to launch
the consultation ‘Seeking the Face of Christ’, took place.
The meeting began with morning prayer where people were invited to consider the need for hope in our world today.
Bishop Declan then spoke about his reasons for launching the
consultation process. He explained his reasons for choosing the title -
‘Seeking the Face of the Christ’ - came partly from the prayer of St
Ambrose which begins the document, “O my God teach my heart where and
how to seek you”, and partly because the Church exists in order to
evangelise and the first people to be evangelised are ourselves. In
every aspect of our own lives we need to seek the face of Christ, so
that when people see us they will see Christ.
People commented upon how inspiring they found the Bishop's
presentation and said that, “the presentations made me think about
where we are as a parish”. Others commented they found it helpful to
talk in groups and wished that part of the day had been longer.
People began to share their ideas about how this process cold be taken
back to the parishes. The Bishop concluded the morning with prayer and
thanks to the St George parish team for their hospitality.
