The netball team from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Chippenham
triumphed again - for the eighth year in succession. They were taking
part in the Chippenham Schools Tournament, an annual event held at the
Wiltshire town’s Sheldon School.
In the round robin competition, St Mary’s won every match scoring a
colossal 47 goals and giving a miserly four away. Their success closely
follows their recent victory at the St Margaret’s Netball Tournament in
Calne.
“The children had a fantastic tournament,” said Diane Riley, Year Six
Teacher and St Mary’s PE Coordinator. “They played really well, showed
great enthusiasm and excellent team work. They also demonstrated superb
footwork and were really agile around the court.”
It’s an amazing tournament record for one primary school to remain
unbeaten for eight years. What’s the secret of their success? “We have
a House system at St Mary’s and the children play Inter-House matches
at school. This gives the Year Five and Six boys and girls plenty of
opportunity to experience competitive play, in addition to regular
practice sessions.”, explained Mrs Riley.
