30 May 2008

The University of the West of England (UWE) Chamber Choir and Brass Consort delighted the audience at St Patrick’s Church in Redfield, Bristol with a selection of music that ranged from Palestrina to Herbie Flowers.

Soloists included Rebecca Taunton in Felix Mendelssohn's 'Hear my Prayer', Charlotte Stein who featured in Gustav Holst's 'This have I done for my True Love' and Nathan Loxley who played 'Tuba Smarties' by Herbie Flowers.

Pupils from St Patrick's School also played a part in the concert with their percussion accompaniment to 'The Toreador Song' from Bizet's Carmen.

The Chamber Choir was directed by Nicholas Barlow and the Brass Consort played under the baton of Ian Holmes.

The last concert of this season at St Patrick’s takes place on Friday 11 July when guitarist John Byrne will be visiting Bristol.  John is a widely acclaimed classical guitarist who also contributed to the worldwide hit 'There She Goes' as lead guitarist with the legendary Liverpool band La's.
