Bishop Declan has urged people in the Clifton Diocese to back the
national Day for Life on Sunday 1 July. This special day will see
Catholics in the Clifton Diocese joining with the Catholic community
throughout England and Wales in offering support to Life and the
Linacre Centre for Healthcare Ethics.
The theme for this year is ‘Blessed is the fruit of your womb’.
Bishop Declan has written to all parishes in the diocese. In his letter
he said, “I am writing to reiterate the importance of this day, which
this year, marks the 40th anniversary of the Abortion Act in England
and Wales, and to encourage you to use the resources made available by
the Bishops’ Conference.
“As in previous years the, Bishops of England and Wales have authorised
a special collection in parishes for the Day for Life. This will be
held on 1 July.
“Proceeds of the Day for Life collection will go principally to the
Life organisation and the Linacre Centre for Healthcare Ethics – which
aims to help Catholics and others to explore the Church’s position on
bioethical issues.”
Beautifully designed leaflets will be available in parishes in the
Clifton Diocese on 1 July. These can be downloaded now from the
innovative Day for Life website. The website also gives you the
opportunity to learn more with videos to watch and a selection of
podcasts to listen to.
Bishop Declan concluded his recent letter saying, “Please show
generosity in supporting the important and valuable work of Life and
the Linacre Centre.”
