Swindon’s Praying for Vocations

25 April 2009

Dean of Swindon and Parish Priest of St Mary’s, Father Liam Slattery, has been busy as the build-up to Vocations Sunday (3 May) continues.  He’s organised a special event for people in our Swindon deanery

Father Liam told cliftondiocese.com: “During his homily at the Chrism Mass, Bishop Declan drew attention to the reality that within the next few years there will be fewer clergy in the diocese.  It will be a challenge time for the priests, deacons and laity of the diocese.

“Bishop Declan said: ‘Facing the reality of fewer priests and rising to the challenge, part of our response is to continue to pray for vocations to the priesthood and also to encourage young men to follow that path of service of God, the Church and our world.’

“In response to Bishop Declan’s words there is an hour of guided prayer for vocations to the priesthood on Vocations Sunday, 3 May at 4.00 pm in St Mary’s Church, Tovey Road, Swindon.”

All are welcome to St Mary’s for this special vocations prayer event.

Bishop Declan has written a pastoral letter for this special occasion in our Church year.
