A group of tired but elated pilgrims has returned home to Taunton
following a special seven-day pilgrimage to Lourdes. The group
celebrated fifty golden years of the ‘HCPT - The Pilgrimage Trust’ – a
charity which takes young children with disabilities on a week’s
wonderful journey to the shrine of Our Lady.
This year the West-based group was twenty-seven strong and included ten
children. They were accompanied by three students from St Peters
Catholic High School in Gloucester.
Doug Lowe, a parishioner at St Teresa’s Catholic Church in Taunton, was one the organisers of the visit. He said:
“It was wonderful; the children really enjoyed themselves especially visiting the famous Grotto.”
The Taunton pilgrims bumped in to a famous fellow pilgrim when they met
the Scottish Cardinal, Keith O’Brien. Cardinal O’Brien was asked to
give a blessing to the children, which he did and stayed for a while to
chat. Doug added:
“It was great to meet Cardinal O’Brien. He thought our Albright special
pilgrimage sweatshirts were great and made us stand out with the two
large hands on the back.”
