The Latest News from the World of the Union of Catholic Mothers

Congratulations to Gertrude Scanlon the President of the St Gerard Majella foundation in Knowle, Bristol. Gertrude recently won medals at the Highbridge Music Festival for singing the Dame Hannah’s The Legend from Gilbert & Sullivan which secured her the gold medal. Gertrude gained the silver medal for Glamorous Nights by Ivor Novello and in the Sacred Song category singing Panis Angelicus, Elijah Woe unto Him gained two bronze medals.

The Union of Catholic Mothers (UCM) was welcomed to Clifton Cathedral for their AGM early in March. Father Kevin Mortimer Parish Priest at Sacred Heart, Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol and the Union’s Spiritual Director commenced the evening by celebrating Mass.

Rita Daws the Cathedral Foundation President welcomed guests from the Catholic Women’s League and the Mothers Union.

Midie Macdonald retired as Secretary having served five years in the important role. Her great work was warmly acknowledged by all the foundations. She was presented with a glass candlestick and a cheque from the members. Pat Kissane the UCM Diocesan President made a presentation of a picture of St Margaret Clitherow in appreciations of Midie’s help during her many years of service to the UCM.

Pat Kissane was reelected as the UCM Diocesan President and Patricia Tester continues as Treasurer.
