Time in Summer to Think Faith

31 March 2009

The fifth ‘Thinking Faith’ week will take place from this summer in Cumbria and people from the Clifton Diocese have been invited to take part and spend some time away at this unique event.

‘Thinking Faith’ runs from 18 to 24 July at Boarbank Hall in Cumbria and provides a unique mix of holiday, retreat and study week for Catholic students and young professionals.

The weeks were started by a group of friends who met as students, when they lived together as part of a mixed lay-religious Dominican community, overlapping for some of the time with Father Timothy Radcliffe. They wanted to pass on to younger Catholics their experience of community living, and of reflecting on their faith from within their own professional contexts.  The week is hosted by the Augustinian Sisters, whose beautiful convent and guest house has a stunning view over Morecambe Bay.

This year’s topics will include ‘the evidence for evolution’, ‘The relation between scripture and science’, ‘care for the dying’ and ‘time-keeping: what can we learn from the monasteries?’.  There will also be films, social evenings, and opportunities to explore the local area.  The group will share in the Prayer of the Church together and with the Augustinian Sisters.  A walk across Morecambe Bay is planned as is a walk in the Lake District with Mass in the chapel at Glenridding.
