The Severn Forum, the open and ecumenical theological association for the counties bordering the River Severn, is holding a lecture entitled ‘Christians and Jews: Competitive Siblings or the Israel of God?’
The lecture will be given by Father Dr John McDade SJ, the Principal of
Heythrop College, University of London, where he lectures in Systematic Theology. From an assessment by Jewish scholars of the statement Dabru Emet on interfaith dialogue with Christianity, he asks if dialogue with other faiths substantially modifies the features of a religion. If the relation to Judaism is at the heart of Christian identity, then do the two traditions exercise a single mission on behalf of the truth of God?
This event sees the first Catholic lecture of the society and it is hoped the local Catholic community will support it in large numbers!
All are welcome. For members and students it’s free and non-members pay just £3.00.
Other Catholic speakers lined-up for this year include Lucy Becket (12 May) and Father Ian Ker who will talk about Cardinal Newman and the idea of a university (13 October)

Deborah Jones the Severn Forum’s Programme Secretary.
