Trowbridge Youth Magazine Feature

27 December 2007

Active young parishioners form the vibrant parish of St John the Baptist feature prominently in the latest issue of the parish’s magazine.

From news items including a golf report, CAFOD activities, a Christmas message from Parish Priest and Dean of Trowbridge Canon Liam O’Driscoll, and an altar servers feature, Editor John Kelly has provided cliftondiocese.com with this article penned by the parish youth group:

A number of people from the parish have asked us how we are getting on with plans to go to Sydney next year as part of the World Youth Day celebrations which will be attended by Pope Benedict.

A lot of people gave money to us when we did our sponsored bike ride to Bath, and we are very thankful to you for that, but Australia just seemed a bit too much and we have decided that instead we will do a pilgrimage closer to home.

We will, at some time in 2008, spend a weekend in Dulverton, which is a centre run by the Diocese of Clifton for young people to have residential retreats. Watch these pages for more information.

In the meantime we have had the usual selection of games nights, prayer events and pizza evenings. We have been really pleased to welcome some new members and would say new young people are always welcome.

Sunday 25 November was Youth Sunday, and we were pleased to be asked to plan the 6.00 pm Mass. This we did, and everything went well and we enjoyed helping out in the parish.

We will meet again in January 2008 and would welcome any young person aged 13 or over to help us plan some future events.
