Unearthing Justice in Taunton

Taunton parishioners are continuing their support for CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development).

Our picture shows Sister Margret Mary and Becci Jones holding some of the 320 gold chains which the congregation at St Teresa’s Catholic Church signed as a pledge to help the CAFOD ‘Unearth Justice’ campaign.

The Taunton parishioners are joining others in the Clifton Diocese and thousands worldwide who are demanding that retailers and manufacturers of gold jewellery, electronics and other goods provide an alternative to ‘dirty gold’.

The congregation also raised £374 for the CAFOD Harvest Fast Day which will go towards helping people in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) who have lived through so many years of fighting. Many people on the African country are uncertain whether they will have enough to eat each day, but thanks to our support, CAFOD has funded an organisation which is replacing the dairy herd of cows for a village on the border with Rwanda.

During the war, cows were stolen or killed, leaving the people destitute with no way of earning an income. Farmers of different ethnic groups now owns the cows collectively and work together for a more prosperous and peaceful future in their community.
