People flocked to St Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Southmead,
Bristol to enjoy a concert performed by the Kidderminster Valentines
and Bristol New Harmony Ladies Choir.
Over sixty Valentines took to the stage including Judy Morris who
described an ‘absolutely fabulous’ time, saying, “The people of
Southmead and Father George Batten, the Parish Priest, were really warm
and welcoming. The crowd exceeded our expectations.”
Fellow Valentine, Sue Strong, added, “The Southmead concert was our
first, singing with another female choir. We gelled well and there was
a wonderful fellowship which produced a fantastic sound.”
Judy Morris agreed and it seems friendships were developed, “Bristol
New Harmony Choir was a joy to perform with. We enjoyed drinks and
nibbles together after the concert back at our hotel.”
The combined voices number over 90.
The concert - performed by the Valentines and New Harmony Choir -
without charge, raised £470.00 for the Clifton Diocese Peru Appeal. The
special appeal is to help people of the San Antonio parish in Moquegua,
Peru to build a church. San Antonio’s Parish Priest is Father Danny
O’Sullivan, a priest of the Clifton Diocese. He emailed his thanks,
saying, “On behalf of my poor community I thank you most sincerely.”
Southmead’s Parish Priest, Father George Batten said, “The concert was
a wonderful way for our parish to help others so far away, but yet so
close to us - and brothers and sisters in the Universal Church.”
The Valentines have been specifically invited to perform at another
fundraising concert - for Cancer Research UK - in the Royal Albert Hall
on 4 November.
