The ‘Sound of Many Waters’ vigil of reconciliation and reflection for creation, attracted a wide variety of people to Clifton Cathedral last night (15 February).
The Cathedral proved an atmospheric setting for this unique event which helped people think about our relationship with the natural world.
Father Chris Boles SJ led people as they reflected upon different aspects of nature.
Superb music helped the congregation contemplate the issues facing the earth and moments of silence allowed the time and space for people to personally consider their actions and to make their own prayers.
An array of images was projected on to the walls of the Cathedral. Much of the footage came courtesy of the BBC Natural History Unit.
Many pictures of the evening can be viewed in the image panel on the right. You can also listen to and download our podcast in which we speak with Mary Colwell, the inspiration behind ‘Sound of Many Waters’. Cath McCarthy, the Chair of the Cathedral Pastoral Council and Mary's dad also spoke with us just before the vigil got underway. The podcast is in the multimedia panel on the right.
Mary and Father will be on BBC radio tomorrow (17 February). As part of ‘Sunday Starts’, they’ll be talking with presenter Trevor Fry about the vigil and what’s next in the series of events focused on the environment. BBC Radio Bristol’s and BBC Somerset’s ‘Sunday Starts’ is on air from 6.00 am to 10.00 am every Sunday. Mary and Father Chris will be talking at around 8.30 am.
